Further to our earlier announcement in September last year, I am pleased to confirm that the Association of African Universities will hold its 12^th General Conference in Abuja, Nigeria from May 4 – 9, 2009.  This is at the kind invitation of the University of Abuja and the University of Ilorin, Nigeria.  The venue for the Conference is the Abuja International Conference Centre. 

 Symposium

Apart from sessions devoted to the conduct of AAU business, there will be a major scientific symposium on the general theme: Sustainable Development in Africa: The Role of Higher Education. In addition to Keynote Presentations, there will be papers and presentations dealing with the following four (4) sub-themes:

Teaching and Learning
Research and Development
Engaging the Community
Greening the Campus

Fees and Registration

Conference fees (in US Dollars) are as follows:

•  $500 for each participant from a full or associate member university/institution of  the AAU; and
•  $600 for all other participants, including accompanying persons.

All registered participants will be provided with the following:

• Conference Bag and Documents;
• Lunch, Tea/Coffee Break and receptions during the conference days; and
• Local transportation.
  

The deadline for registration and payment of conference fees is March 15, 2009. Registration and payment after the deadline attracts an additional charge of US$100. Participants should note that no refunds would be made for cancellations after March 30, 2009. In lieu of cancellation, a registered person may send a representative.

The Joining Information is giving more details on logistic arrangements for the Conference.  If you are planning to participate in the Conference, and you have not already done so, kindly register online and select the appropriate registration fee payable by crossed cheque in the name of the Association of African Universities. In the alternative, payment can be made by means of a bank transfer to any of the AAU bank accounts  mentioned below

 Please  inform AAU about the bank account into which the transfer is effected and the date of transfer.

There will also be an exhibition of books, brochures, etc.  Participants are encouraged to bring along items for display.
